the thanksgiving round-up.

Cranberry Sauce, Fresh Scratch

spiced cider cocktailThank you, Thanksgiving.

Thank you for a few days off from school.

Thank you for pies {this is my favorite for Thanksgiving. It’s my mom’s award-winning recipe!}, especially pecan.

Thank you for sweet potato casserole.

Thank you for new movies out in the theater.

Thanks for some time to travel a little.

Thanks for the perfect excuse to make my cranberry sauce. I mean, the leftovers are awesome as filling for thumbprint cookies and such!

Thanks for time to read {I’m currently finishing up the latest in the Shopaholic series! Becky gets into scrapes like nobody’s business!}.

Thanks for arriving when it’s chilly so we can hide that holiday pudge beneath scarves and sweaters.

And thanks for cocktails. Because, I mean, wine is fine, but you know what they say about liquor. I’ll be drinking The Fresh Scratch, Apple Pie Martinis, and my new twist on the Apple Pie Martini, the Spiced Cider Cocktail.

Because nothing says gratitude like a drink with Fireball Whiskey in it. Am I right?

Just think, one week from now, we’ll all be pigging-out. Happy Thanksgiving, friends.

I am thankful for you!

Who doesn't like a little Atomic Fireball taste with their apple cider? I mean, show me the person.

  1. 1/2 shot of vanilla or honey vodka
  2. 1/2 shot Fireball Whiskey
  3. 2 shots of apple cider
  1. 1. In a shaker filled with ice, combine all three ingredients.
  2. 2. Pour into a glass filled with ice cubes.
  3. 3. If it's too strong, no prob - just top with more cider. Not strong enough? I think you'll know what to do ;).
  1. I like to mix these up ahead of time and store in a Mason jar in the fridge. Why not? Sometimes you just need these at the ready at the holidays.
Fresh Scratch

monday meal madness!

matt's 40th, V

Happy Labor Day! Happy 40th to Mister Fresh Scratch!

Over the last week, we’ve been in the thick of back-to-school teacher meetings {Dante surely had a place for these in his circles of Hell; he just forgot to mention them!}. We’ve eaten a lot of pizza. Not homemade.

But I do have a couple dinner ideas for you, so get out those menus and grocery lists, and away we go!

GP's wontonsThe Mister cooked me dinner on our date night last week – chicken fajitas that were to die for. Where’s the photo, though? I think my camera was off and I was so bedraggled that I didn’t even notice when I pushed the button!

He also attempted these little tofu and veggie-filled wonton wrapper guys from Gwyneth’s latest cookbook, IT’S ALL GOOD: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great. He served them with steamed, salty edamame, and they were fabulous, even if they were falling apart.

matt's 40th, IIn celebration of Matt’s 40th, we had his family over for a luau-themed birthday dinner last night. He and his brother {plus his bff and one of my brothers} spent a week on Maui last month, waiting out hurricanes, snorkeling, and scuba diving, so we just had a small bash.

matt's 40th, IIThe tables were covered in sarongs. We had chicken and pineapple kebobs, sweet potato fries, slaw, and veggies from his uncle’s garden. Oh, and how can I forget the pina coladas?! Do you like pina coladas?

How about getting caught in the rain? Ya like that?

matt's 40th, III matt's 40th, IVmatt's 40th, VI matt's 40th, VIIAunties will be aunties, even if you are forty!

matt's 40th, VIIIHere are my bro-in-law and his lovely lady. I just adore her!

matt's 40th, IXMy in-laws, who dressed for a luau {I forgot the outfit part!} and are so generous and loving.

matt's 40th, XUncle Rob clearly was bursting with joy! Or tired because I put him to work fixing a dresser upon his arrival…

matt's 40th, VMatt’s aunt and uncle made their famous “6 3’s” ice cream. Or is it “3 6’s?” Not sure. But it has bananas. And I love it!

The cake was vanilla with pineapple cream cheese frosting. We saved one big piece for the birthday boy for this evening, as today is the actual day.

Good luck keeping us out of that piece of cake all day, Mister! Happy 40th!
