TGIF, y’all. TGIF.
All cell phone pics. Every Friday. Because your best camera is the one you have with you.
You can follow me on Instagram at kellisamson. I was a little busy on Instagram this week, which was a nice change!
By last Friday afternoon, I’d finally had it with two weeks of a roaring sinus infection. I was in so much pain that I went to urgent care. On a Friday. At 4 pm. You know it’s bad when you find yourself in that nasty place! Luckily, I had two copies of recent issues of “Imbibe” to finish reading. Such a fun magazine. And I love seeing the Career Counselor from my high school on the list of names at the beginning! She has a double-life.
I actually got seen by the doctor ahead of everyone who was there when I walked in {I’m lucky like that}, and I left with prescriptions in hand and ready to make about forty cocktails.
I’ve been on super-parenting duty lately. Mr. Fresh Scratch has had a very busy week of meetings, meetings, and piano playing. Yes, I am married to “The Piano Man,” only we don’t have a mansion on Long Island. Yet.
So last Saturday morning I dropped Teensy off at her cooking class, then spent the time with Teensy-Weensy at our new Hands On Children’s Museum here in Olympia. It’s getting tons of press and rave reviews. It’s so cool, in fact, that my high school is holding its Sadie Hawkins dance there!
I had a blast – the place is epically huge, plus you can get all your birthday party gift shopping done while you’re there, as they have the cutest shop of the best kids’ stuff. Members get a discount, too!
I did get stuck in the slide, though. I really did. My daughter was flabbergasted.
Teensy went to a slumber party last weekend, and it was mustache-themed. This weekend we are going to a Valentine’s party with the same theme! What’s up with the mustaches?! It’s hysterical!
My friend Jeni, who is a mom of four, our Girl Scout leader, and a teacher….also makes these extraordinary cakes. Amazing, huh? She is an artist, for sure. The big mustache on top was so the girls could pose behind it!
That’s my handsome husband. We had a date last Saturday night. We went to Swing for dinner and stiff drinks, then to see the play “Or” at the Harlequin Theatre. The play was one of the best I’ve seen in Olympia – really well-done and very funny! My in-laws missed out, as they are in Hawaii {sniff, sniff!} and they gave us their tickets to this show. Thanks, guys!
Nothing like a date night to forget you argued all morning. Ha ha!
I just did not care enough about football this year to choose a team for the Super Bowl win {gasp!}. So I chose Beyonce’. Then I made it known to all by writing it on the chalkboard in our foyer. So there.
Just as the game was ending, these poor ’49-er fans mugged for me. They have a bromance.
My sophomore honors English students have been slogging through A Tale of Two Cities, which is one of the best stories ever told. Try convincing 16-year-olds of this fact!
This was the last presentation group after they finished telling us about Parisian style and culture {and food!} earlier this week. I love that they dressed up! A for Effort, as I always say! Oui, oui! Days like that remind me my job is pretty dang sweet.
Also sweet? Making Valentines. Thank you, Pinterest. I just let my girls look at my board of Valentine ideas and run with it. I love that Teensy-Weensy can make her own at 3 years old, as they just involve stamping. She had a little trouble remembering the order to stamp in, so some say “U I Heart,” which is adorable and Yoda-esque. And when we left the hardware store with a big stack of red and pink paint chips tucked away in my purse, she said, “Mama! But you didn’t pay!” Very honest, that one.
I treated myself to actually flipping through my Garnet Hill catalogue this week, rather than recycling it because it just makes me want-want-want. I couldn’t help but notice how very 1988 a lot of the outfits looked. Like, I think I wore this in fifth grade. Is anyone else noticing that fashion has been very 80′s-like lately?
Teensy-Weensy takes about a half an hour to fold the washcloths. But who doesn’t want to take a million breaks to lie in the sunny spot?
xoxo,
Mrs. Fresh Scratch

I like the folding washcloths in the sun pic. That is cute!
Thanks! She’s a fun one.
Reading about your weeks is sort of like getting a cup of tea and sitting down and enjoying a good magazine. You just have a nice way of telling things. I loved “Yoda-esque” and your little one looks like she could be part cat.
Sorry I haven’t written my post yet, I’m going to get to that now! Those are very hard questions!!
No worries! It’s a tough-ie.
Your compliment made my day. I shared it as the best part of my day on Saturday at dinner (we do that every night)! Thank you.
On the topic of 80s/early 90s styled clothes, see: like EVERYTHING that Target is putting out for spring right now. Pastels, neons, cropped sweaters… even in the “grown-up” end of the women’s clothes. I don’t get it.
I don’t either, Willa. I still feel like, “That is so OUT!” Someone told me that you can trace a civilization’s decline by their decline in new fashion over a number of years. Uh, oh.
