Good Morning.
I just dropped my iPhone in my full cup of tea as I was sitting down to write this.
It’s still working, but is going to chill in a bowl of rice all morning, just in case {so, Jill at work, you can’t text me about the staff breakfast this morning, hon.}.
But, anyway, uh, good morning.
At least I can see the Big Dipper out my skylight against the crisp, dark, early morning sky, right? iPhone? What iPhone?
It’s finally Friday, and – soggy iPhone or not – that’s a good thing. You will soon see what kind of week I had by how few cell phone pictures I have to share with you. By the way, I’m kellisamson on Instagram, and I’d love to meet up with you there!
Last Saturday I left my house at a really bad time to get my hair cut and re-colored to be my favorite shade of what I call “Julia Roberts’ Red, circa 1988,” or “Mystic Pizza Red,” if you know what I mean. It was an unfortunate time for me to leave, as my husband and my friend Scotty were about to start laying floors in our master bedroom. And our two little kids were running around.
Definitely time for “Wife of the Year,” right?
But my car was happy. That’s her on the right. She got parked next to her long-lost sis. They found they shared some of the same stickers. We left her a note.
We did not get one back.
Local Olympia peeps, have you tried this new marinara at the Thriftways and the Co-ops? It’s in the deli sections.
It’s called Cucina Ciancetta, and that’s my curly-haired friend Chris on the label! It’s really yummy, has only good stuff in it, and she makes it in small batches.
If you don’t like to make your own sauce, you should definitely let some of this find its way into your heart cart.
Even though I left him alone with the kids for two and a half hours while I got my hair done, Mr. Fresh Scratch and Scotty still got the job done! They worked alllll day last Saturday, and then the Mr. put the finishing touches on last Sunday morning.
He said even his toenails were hurting.
I want to say that I wish I had taken a “before” picture for you, but I really don’t. ”Before” was disgusting. Throughout most of my house there is that light blue color of carpet from the late 80′s. Remember the blue and mauve thing?
Well, we have authentic, vintage blue carpet from 1989. Sexy.
It’s slowly going to go to the dump.
Can we all give the Mr. a big round of applause? And Scotty? It’s fab. My kids call it their ice skating rink.
It’s only a matter of time before one of them breaks an arm.
Last night I finally got to sneak away while everyone else was at gymnastics and I was supposed to be making dinner. I went to the mecca that is TJ Maxx, armed with the gift card from my brother-in-law’s gal.
I got an awesome pair of shoes.
I did not get these. These are made of bicycle chain – rusty, no less – and are pretty much the most hideous things I’ve ever seen.
But, folks, do you not see how they are arranged on the shelf? I promise I found them like this.
The universe is reminding me not to forget about Gwyneth Paltrow, even though I just finished cooking my way through her cookbook {the baking will come later}.
Noted, universe.
I am taking my husband on a date tomorrow night to finally see “Lincoln,” then out to dinner. All while my sweet friend Marie keeps my girls. Love ya, Marie!
Give me a shout-out with your weekend plans!

Oh my goodness that was a roller coaster ride! Poor phone. I know that sick feeling. Too cute leaving a note for the sister car. But most of all….WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BEDROOM!!!! What a haven. It is going to inspire me to beat back the dirty clothes pile in mine. I hear it whispering at night.
Hopeful good thoughts sent out to your phone and have a great weekend. Mine involves painting, and hopefully painting (see other note I wrote you) and soccer and hopefully a deep breath and a smile at the sunshine!
Hasn’t the sun been a gift!? I have loved it. It helps our moods around here immensely! It even helped me to not stress about my dang phone. Which is working, by the way. Maybe I should catch everyone up in my post this morning. Hope you got to do some of your kind of painting! Thanks for your compliments to my bedroom. I try very, very hard to keep it sanctuary-esque. No tv. We are about to add a book shelf to the room, but that’s it.
You are a wise woman! Did the TV thing and will never do it again!
I’ve been watching your Instagram photos, and the sister cars cracked me up. We put in new floor this summer, and it was brutal, so I feel for your Mr.
No awesome weekend plans, except maybe starting the quilting I’ve been putting off if I can un-mess up the tension on my sewing machine. It’s been a week of dinking tasks – 10 minutes to finish one thing, 20 minutes doing another, etc., so I’d really love to be able to spend a few hours getting something big done!
How’s the quilting going, Heather?
The bedroom floor looks fabulous! Definitely worth all the work! But alas my toenails do not hurt from doing it! Looking forward to a slow weekend!
It was a fab weekend, indeed, thanks in part to you and your Mr. keeping our monsters so we could have a date. xoxo
